In my World of Martapa, Houses are the Kingdoms of the continent of Taina. They are run by humans, though some demi-human blood may run through their lineages. Below is a list of all 16 Houses and their founding members. In the following blogs I will add in the noble Houses for each House as of the era we will be campaigning in, with the knowledge by the time of the High King's Sword there may be more, less or different noble Houses for each major House.
A noble house would be like dukes and duchesses or barons and baroness in English heritage, beholden to the major House as a duke or baroness might be. They win the favor of their lord and lady by birth, action or reward. Their titles and rights can be stripped by the Leader of their mother House at any time, though it rarely happens. If it helps your campaign, add in a noble House to take apart, use as an ally or have a PC be from.

Founders of the 16 Houses. (The High King is separate and not considered a House.)
1. Vandez was
Peter’s rock and Protector.
2. Olaf Cole was
called the cunning
3. Hugh Brightwater
wanted to be a shipwright
4. Tresh Bloodhelm
always had blood on him no matter how bloodless the battle.
5. Ethan Sandwin
(Eton) was a tree farmer
6. Ryan Goldleaf was
good warrior and herb farmer.
7. Gustaff
Weatherworn was not a mage, but his wife, Lillith, was a weather mage of
extraordinary ability so he started a college of magic there, thus the symbols.
8. Pathfinder was an
excellent ranger and loved wolves.
9. Lord Greenthorne
loved rosebushes, but he was a warrior to the core, thus the thorns.
10. Gandel Merryweather was a farmer before the ogres took
over, but when he became a fighter, it was like the sun rising. They called him “the stag” for his ability to
disappear into the underbrush once he sprung a surprise attack. It was often rumored there were other reasons
for the connotation.
11. Eric Calabay was a good friend to Peter, and a good
fighter with twin weapons, but he loved the sea and returned to it despite
being the lord of a House.
12. Joseph Goldenstein chose a place near his home village
of his birth, which is near the great Varanath mountain. Thus, he named his House Varanath.
13. Jadae Tayke was a firm fighter and was often called the
“Dragon” in battle. In her culture,
Dragons were denoted for their wisdom.
14. Teth Landshire bred horses of every kind, thus the
horse.
15. Sunvale lived in the cliff dwellings of his kind and
loved the sun. Thus, the sun over the
mountains.
16. Devon Karoon was best upon horse back, but became a
farmer afterward on the plains of eastern Taina
