Expanded Timeline For After Chaos (AC) Part 154

Year 154 AC
This year's gathering is huge.  Representatives from the monks of Ariella come to sign a treaty with the mages of Dragon's Fire to share knowledge for the betterment of all of Martapa.  A wall has been built around the town of Gathering proper and a small keep is set in case there is any incursions from ogres in the years that the Great Gathering does not occur. Each of the major cities promises to staff the city with a score of men each and provide for their keep and pay so the city can remain safe since it has become so important to the entirety of Taina.

Year 153 AC
A score of lycanthorpes are spotted in the south west region of Taina.  Priests of Wesa ask for help in taking care of them before they become an issue and over run the nearby villages.  Because they are not organized like some churches, the priests of Wesa need all the help they can get.

Year 152 AC
A new bizarre is set up in Gathering to sell magical items, such as lightstones, heated water basins, even floating carts.  At first mages are not happy to see their magic on sale like typical household items.  But as time passes they see how it makes peoples lives so much easier and take advantage of such market places.

A dragon carcass is found near Karoon and mages and scholars come to the area to study the body and to determine what may have killed the dragon.

Year 151 AC
The Dragon's Fire College sets up small outposts through out Taina, hoping to have a better educated population.  These outposts teach all local children, and adults, how to read and tally numbers. Those who show promise are tutored in more advance subjects.

More permanent roads begin to go in between the major cities of Taina.  A lot of the work is done by mages, paid for by a merchant tax, but some work is done by workers, which helps the economy.

A new type of magic spell is discovered.  This type of magic allows translocation of people over long distance.  Only a few can perform the magic and the magic takes a lot out of the user.  More study is going to occur at the Dragon's Fire, since this type of magic will be very helpful if wide spread.

Year 149 AC
An ice storm passes between the Dwarven Islands and Taina mainland, causing the bay to freeze in spots enough for people to actually walk the miles between the Islands and mainland.  There are impromptu celebrations and trading and though the dwarves like to be pretty isolationist, they enjoy the small trading and get togethers.   Several trading pacts are made, but mostly it's just a social opportunity brought to them by the weather.

A gathering of Akicitia occurs in the southern reaches of Ariella.  Clan hunting grounds are decided upon, gathering rights are discussed and apprentices are exchanged to expand knowledge.  Weddings are a big part of the gathering along with tall tale telling.  This is only open to those of the clans, including any non-Akicitia who have been adopted into the clans.

A farmer near Gathering claims to have a chicken that lays golden eggs.  After such claims he is attacked, the "chicken" stolen and now he is looking for someone to find the "chicken" for him.

Weather is so unpredictable between Taina and Ariella that trade is almost nonexistent for most of the year.  The lack of trade causes shortages and hardships for many.

There is a small village of people discovered on the northern most coast of Taina who seem unaware of the rest of the world.  They act as if magic is not normal, where as it is the most normal thing in Martapa, and think it's still the times of the ogres ruling.  They do not take kindly to strangers and don't like to talk, even though many are coming to search nearby ruins for treasure and knowledge.

A total eclipse of the sun draws all sorts to holy sites and to churches.  Many are worried that the Gods are mad at the mortals of the world.  Scholars try to send out the message that the eclipse is a normal occurrence.  The churches try to bring solace to their followers but less reputable people try to take advantage of the eclipse.  Some mages believe it is a magical time where magic is more powerful and magic items made during this time are even more magical.

A man wanders the country side in western Taina saying that on the Fall Equinox that men and women should put out goodies for the dead so that they will not haunt the village, home, or city that the goodies are put out in.  Some of the people he tells think it's silly, but do it anyway, then make a celebration of it, giving the dead food, but sharing the banquet with the whole village.  In years to come it becomes a huge celebration and time to remember those who have passed, even if that wasn't why the man wanted them to honor the dead.

A ghost ship is seen between the Dwarven Islands and the mainland.  When ever it is spotted, ships crews suffer some disease or ships crash into near by rocks.  Trade between the mainland and Dwarven Islands slow.

A strange little animal is found in the jungles of southern Ariella.  Standing about three feet tall, standing on their back feet with clawed forefeet. They are predators and hunt in packs.  They are causing issues with the local farm and wildlife and the local population is looking for help to take them out.  Scholars also want to study them so are looking for escorts, as well.

The Great Gathering occurs this year.  Treaties are made and there is an idea of splitting up regions under a single ruler each.  Each area says they will talk with the other leaders and see what the consensus is for the next gathering.  People think it will be easier to raise troops against enemies such as ogres and other monsters. Also the roads would be easier to maintain which would make trade better and enrich everyone.

This year is marred with magic going haywire, nature letting loose, and the black knights continuing to rampage across the country side.  Parts of Dragon's Fire are singed when magic turns a little unpredictable, but they manage to only lose one student during the whole incident.  Great tornados hit eastern Taina and a hurricane hits the eastern coast.  The black knights still have not been stopped and no one is any closer to knowing where they have come from.

A war horde of black armored knights roams the countryside, attacking peasant farms and heavily protected city alike.  No one seems safe.  The rulers of the areas hit get together to try and form a defense, but they have no idea where the knights are coming from, who they are or what they want.  Adventurers are needed to root out the source of the problem and are offered great rewards if they can.

The Monks of Ariella and the mages at Dragon's Fire collaborate on working on language dictionaries so that no language is forgotten.  This project is scheduled to take years and the scholars are working in both Dragon's Fire school and the monastery.  Many of the local rulers are pleased with the endeavor and some are even donating to the cause.  Adventurers, who come upon random knowledge, are asked to contribute anything they may have.

The Grand Gathering has some heated words thrown about during the duration of the gathering.  A mage supposedly killed a leader in northern Taina, so many of the leaders say that the mages should be banned, or regulated, or under the control of the leaders of the area they are in.  The mages object, obviously, though they do not know, for sure, if a mage truly killed this leader that many had never heard of.  Many of the mages and their supporters believe it is a few who want to control mages that have set up the unprovable scenario, not a true crime.

Theran Gryphon begins to lay out a better village near the monastery.  He takes his knowledge and lays in pipes to bring water to all parts of the city and pipes to bring out sewage.  He makes a pact with a mage to make light stones that will light walk ways and roads and brings in strong stone for the buildings with the promise of trade for those traders.  Many come to his banner, despite his young age, for his intellect is cunning and beyond his years.

Wildfires sweep across the plains on Ariella, displacing many and killing many animals and people alike.

Year 107 AC
Theran Gryphon leads several young monks against a bunch of bandits who were attacking the caravans to the monastery and nearby city.  They take out the leader and most of the bandits.  Though the monks are not happy that Theran resorted to violence, they are happy with the results.  They allow him to continue training in both the academic and martial.

A new deep bay is being dug by the dwarves to allow them easy access to a port near Stonehold.  They assume it will take several years, even if they can get mages to help.

The Grand Gathering is two years later this time because of the great famine.  Thousands of people come to make treaties, even the elves and dwarves, to trade and to just see all the sites.  The city, now dubbed Gathering, is run by the year round residents, around three thousand, and ruled by only the city council, no king or ruler.  The biggest ruckus is a group of barbarians from the western coast who wreck an inn and burn down a trading post.

Theran Gryphon impresses his tutors, learning five languages in his first year there and picking up history quickly. The monks, though never choosing favorites, find the young man wonderful, respectful and a quick learner.  They also begin training him in the martial arts as well, though monks only use it as a defense.

Dwarves strike a rich vein of silver and gems in mountains north of the village of Sunvale.  Though the dwarves try hard to keep anyone away, they need caravans to get their finds to the sea to take back to the islands.

A young man named Theran Gryphon presents himself to the monastery in Ariella to learn of languages, strategy and history.  The monks take him in, though he is very young, twelve at the time, and began his tutelage.


A bumper crop of food is raised this year and trade begins again, with some hesitation.  People are still very "clannish" and look warily at any strangers after the killing of the year before.

Swarms of rats, roaches and locus cover huge swaths of the northern and southern continents.  Crops are destroyed, fires start from the damage and many people die.  The priests of Iktomi are unsure why the plagues have happened.  The priests of Molestus, god of pain and misery, take credit for the plagues, saying their master is spreading chaos and pain.

Fall out from the Year of Dead Magic is still being felt.  Whole libraries were lost to looting mercenaries and peasants a like.  Many mages, and healing priests, were killed because they were defenseless without their magic.  Cities, and some small villages, have to find healing priests to heal for them with great incentives because many healers are scared they will die.

Treasure hunters find ruins deep in the Ariellen desert.  Parties go out, but few return.  Those that do have rumors of horrible monsters guarding the ruins and no treasure.

This year is marked by mages and priests losing their abilities to use magical abilities for almost the entire year.  There are theories that the Gods are upset about something mortals have done, others think a magical dead zone happened because of Gods fighting, others still think it is for the best so no one has more power then others.  The Year of Dead Magic is marked by many deaths that could have been saved by magic and an attack on the monastery, because they don't have the protections of magic.

The wandering prophet is killed in a freak lightning storm and the priests claim it is the gods striking him down for his heresy.  Others believe it's just an accident and others yet believe the priests of Furere are responsible.

Dwarves travel far to the east, looking for islands or land, and find a small island with only a few natives.  They do not speak any known language and they live rather primitively.  The dwarves are more interested in the strange gems they find on the island, but scholars want to study the culture upon the island.

Some take to heart what he says and follows him, but many followers of the Gods harass him as he travels Martapa.  Some try to change his mind while others try to kill him.  Every survived death attack only makes it clearly to the prophet and his followers that what he says is true.  The council of priests are worried about his influence.

Wildfires run rampant on both Taina and Ariella.  Many people are displaced and the temples of the Gods of Light are busy trying to help.  Many people are taken advantage of and some of the refugees turn to banditry, which causes local villages and towns to hire brute squads.

Dragon's Fire adds a healing wing to the school, bringing many hedge mages in to strengthen their natural ability.  Many mages and clerics who know how to heal come to teach and swap ideas and techniques.  No one is turned away in hopes to save people who would normally die from small injuries such as broken bones or knife wounds.

The fort at Pathfinder is raided by ogres and children are taken by the ogres.  Ben and his men are only able to save a few and Ben is devastated.  Ben leads an all out assault on the ogres and dies, though they do wipe out the ogres.  His last words are "for the children", which is put on a plaque on the gate of the fort.

The small village of Pathfinder is being attacked by ogres.  To counter the effect as best as possible, a trapper named Ben Tradeson has united the farmers and loggers of the area and started building a fort and training a militia.

Ariella experiences a strange magical storm that sweeps over the continent.  There are deaths, but more strange things happen to people, giving them magical abilities where they had none or taking them if they did.  It only affects a few people in such ways, but it is life altering to some.

Dragon's Fire, the mage college near the Tsalagi Mountains, accepts its 1000th student.  There is much celebration and everyone in the nearby area is invited.  Many of the rich merchants and self made nobles have hired a mage from the college to serve at their pleasure and so send gifts of money, food, and supplies so more mages can be trained so well.

A tribe of lycanthrope comes down from the mountains and wipes out a village.  The call for help to take them down is sent out.

A sickness runs through the monastery in Ariella, wiping out many of the monks and the villages that surround the monastery.  No one knows for sure what caused the sickness, but the monks that remain are looking into it.

Year 73 AC
Karoon once again becomes the hotbed of conflict.  With the death of all the ruling family in Karoon, civil war breaks out, killing hundreds and burning down half the city.  A former general of the ruling family steps up and controls the unrest, soon after he is hailed the leader of Karoon.  Some blame him for the deaths of the ruling family, since he argued with them before he retired, but those who know him are positive he was a firm supporter of the family and is only trying to save the city he loves.  Torak Mantow takes a firm, but competent hand and begins to reshape Karoon so it may thrive.

Rumors of ghosts that kill with their gaze or a single touch are spread around the small village of Jaka near the Tsalagi Mountains.  No one goes out at night but rumors abound about why the ghosts are there.  It's blamed on Wizards, dead who were murdered, even an ancient civilization that the bones have been disturbed by the farming near by.  Many adventurers come to see if the latter is right in hopes of finding treasure.

An old temple, buried in sand and soil and ash, is found in the northern part of Tridon, just northeast of Sunvale.  The carvings that are unearthed appear to say that it was dedicated to the Gods of Light, but more study is required.

The Pilgrimage of the Faiths split, part going to the south coast and the rest heading for the north.  Many small temples and shrines are being made and many more people are being brought to the career of priest.

Flooding for most of the areas near rivers of any size after a wet winter and spring.  Farmers are forced to wait later to plant, causing some shortage of food.  Though, where they can plant on time, food stocks are high.

Spice trains from Ariella start to travel on a regular basis from the port near Karoon all the way west to Stormvale, and from Greenthorne all the way to Merryweather and everywhere north and south.  The owners hope they were gain more travel routes and more customers as time goes on.

A sea monster is seen off the northeastern coast of Ariella and take out several ships traveling near there.  It's rumored the sea monster may be a dragon hording gold.

Year 64 AC

This year's grand meeting stretches for almost a month.  There is even a raid on the meeting area by bandits but a band of adventurers repels the attack.  A treaty is made between Sunvale and Karoon, sealed by the marriage of a cousin of Sunvale's leader and a cousin of Karoon's leader.  Dwarves come to this grand meeting and sell good dwarven goods.  Rumors are that elves will come to the next grand meeting.  Lots of mercenaries are hired to cover the caravans.  Several permanent inns are made in the small hollow where they meet, which has been named Stormvale for the random storms that pass through the area.

The fishing village of Calabay rescues several large whales that beach themselves, though they butcher the few that did not live.  In doing so the sea elves grant them a boon.  The sea elves chose to guide the ships of Calabay to good fishing areas for the rest of the year.

A monster of unknown origin is found deep in the bowls of the dwarven mines on the Dwarven Islands.  Help in stopping the monster is sought.

It is a boon year for fishing.  Dried fish is shipped everywhere in the known world.  Even the poor in fishing ports eat well this year.  Because of that, the rich send off expeditions to find buried treasure and forgotten cities, causing an expansion of adventuring groups.  There are some tiffs here and there, but it is an interesting year of discovery.

The monks of Ariella are putting together an expedition to search some ruins to the south of their home.

A ship washes up on the east coast of Taina.  It is like no other ship anyone has seen.  The lines are sleek, the sails are made of material never seen before.  The equipment, though familiar, is not the same as most ships in the known world. The few dead that are found in the wreckage are small men, none reaching over five and half feet, with dark hair and slanted eyes, and a light tan skin.  Scholars and shipwrights from around Taina come to sift through the wreckage.

A mysterious disease kills hundreds of house cats in the city of Landshire.  There is no real rhyme or reason to their deaths.  But the after affects are devastating.  Rats become more prevalent and a plague sweeps through the city, killing thousands.  Rat catchers are working over time and more house cats are brought in and loved greatly as they all kill rats to near extinction and the plague subsides near the winter solstice.

A total solar eclipse sends many people into a frenzy.  Some think it's the end of the world, some think it's a punishment from the Gods.  The learned try to point out it's a natural occurrence.  This is a strong magical time and many magical items are made at this time and other not so benign activities occur during the eclipse.  In some places the people, such as the monks in Ariella, know of it's coming and plan activities around it.

A school near the Tsalagi Mountains named Dragon's Fire for mages is opened.  There are three students the first year, but they hope to expand to let anyone who wants to learn the Arcane to do so.  The priests of Targon from the near by temple are helping with the effort.

A man claiming to know the will of the Gods wanders Ariella, hoping to gain followers to his cause.  Some call him crazy, some call him just a charlatan wanting money, others seek to kill him.

A large pack of wolves are seen many times in the mid range of the Tsalagi Mountains.  Farmers are worried so nearby lords are offering a reward for their killing.

This year is an especially harsh winter.  The winter brings lots of snow, even to the lower elevations, and spring comes late.  The growing season ends up being very small and many places don't yield even half of their normal food levels.  Villages horde what little food they have and drive off strangers.  Trade is very limited.  Many in the city die from lack of food, the villages doing better since they can also hunt, fish and forage to supplement.

A tunnel collapses in a mine in northern Taina, revealing artifacts.  But those who worked the mine think the items are cursed for those who have explored the caverns, filled with gold and other priceless items, have gone mad or died.

A huge migration of whales is seen off the west coast of Taina.  Some of those who follow Waya and Iktomi see it as a sign and go deep into the woods and wild places to commune with the nature.

A small tribe of Akicitia appears at the monastery in Adria, Ariella.  They wish to add their knowledge of plants, customs, crops, hunting, and more to the knowledge base at the monastery.  The monks are ecstatic, letting the small tribe set up a village nearby and welcome their elders with open arms.

The Lord of Karoon is hiring mages, mercenaries and healers to supplement his army.  Some will be used as scouts, so they can work independently of the army if they wish.

Sickness wraps around the world as people try to out run it.  The Healers of Tinaka try to keep up with the need, but even they can not heal all who need it.  One in five die, more in the cities where there are more people.  Those who are different and those of faiths not practiced in a certain area are blamed, many being killed. In many instances Healers of Tinaka are blamed and they run for their lives.

Year 48 AC
The Pilgrimage of Faiths still remains near Vandez.  Funding is slowing as the Pilgrimage continues on.  They stay near Vandez to raise funds, gain supplies and farm for a few years to have their own food stuffs.  Later, when the Pilgrimage continues on, many of the priests and layman stay to help build the growing town of Vandez, since many of the men married while they helped build up supplies for the Pilgrimage.

Sea Elves are found washed up on the shore near the fishing village of Calabay and the villagers are concerned.  They can't contact their allies under the sea and are asking any near by mages, priests, or sailors to help them out.

The Pilgrimage of Faiths reaches the future home of Vandez, right now just a small tropical paradise which grows a bean that makes a wonderful, thick and nutty drink.  Shrines are begun and supplies are purchased before they plan to head north up the coast.

Ogres attack several small towns and villages along the northern Tsalagi Mountains.  They take people and livestock and the call for help goes out.

This year a long, hard rain hits Ariella causing flash flooding and the loss of many lives.  The monks try to get an organized response and are looking for any help they can get.  They can't pay, but certainly have knowledge some adventures might like.

Strange ships, similar to those seen several decades before, are seen on the eastern horizon.  Ariella and the Dwarven Islands both try to send out ships to talk with the strange ships, but the ships run and do not make contact or attack.

The Pilgrimage of the Faithful cut across the tip of Taina toward the west coast.  They stop near a lake so huge, they thought it was the ocean.  Here each faith plans to build a temple to their God because it was so beautiful and God like.

A snow storm traps a large contingent of men and the head family of Sunvale in the Tsalagi Mountains.  Rescue parties are sent and more help is requested.  The city of Sunvale is paying well for any who help rescue them.

Year 45 AC
Magic lights are seen in the northern reaches of Taina.  The faithful head north, thinking it might be the Gods themselves, mages head north to see what sort of powerful magic the lights may contain and adventurers head north in hopes of finding some mysterious city in the lights, since rumors say that it is a city that comes to the plane once every 100 years.  The rumors also state the city is full of treasure and no people to hinder the taking of the treasure.

The Pilgrimage of Faiths reaches the small fishing villages of Brightwater.  Some of the train stay here to put in shrines and a few temples, but most continue on down the coast.
